On Saturday, November 4, 2017, the Foundation hosted the 24th annual Silver Ball: Courage and Confidence, a Celtic Calling, Presented by Scotiabank, at the prestigious Fairmont Royal York Hotel. With nearly 800 guests in attendance, it was truly a night to remember!
Our Brave Hearts
This year, we embraced a Celtic theme in celebration of the courageous patients of Providence (our "Brave Hearts") and the confidence built by our dedicated staff to help them overcome catastrophic illnesses, and build strength to get back to life.
To start the evening, guests were dazzled with a rendition of Amazing Grace on the uilleann pipe by Maitiu Ó Casaide and a beautiful acapella version sung by Sibéal Ni Chasaide. Their performances seamlessly led into the video of our testimonial patient, Matthew Fleming, who told his story about his journey at Providence Healthcare. The production concluded with performances by the talented members of the Graham School of Irish Dance and the Highland Creek Pipe Band, with an emotional reveal of Matthew Fleming on stage, standing up on his own two feet; a goal he worked very hard to achieve during his rehabilitation at Providence.
A grand prize turned into grand gift
The evening also featured an exciting raffle where the winner of the brand new 2017 Lexus Rx350, immediately donated the car back and a live auction was held right on the spot! Earlier in the evening, we announced that the gala had raised $900,000 for Providence. Because of this incredible moment of philanthropy, we were able to close the gap with the help of three very close friends of Providence and hit $1 MILLION (net) for Providence Healthcare!
Other highlights of the evening included a high-calibre silent auction, boasting over $175,000 worth of items, including a once-in-a-lifetime “Bucket List Trip to Ireland” worth over $20,000! A very special thank you to Siobhan Bryne Learat and Adams & Butler for confirming another $20,000 Trip to Ireland for our 2018 Silver Ball. Guests were also entertained by our headline performers, Ireland’s leading classical composer Odhrán Ó Casaide and his company featuring Sibéal Ni Chasaide. It was truly a night to remember!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts
The Foundation wants to offer a huge thank you to Angle Media for its in-kind donation of the filming and production of the patient testimonial video, as well as to Odhrán Ó Casaide, Maitiu Ó Casaide, and Sibéal Ni Chasaide for their in-kind donation of their beautiful performances. Another special thank you to Alistair Baxter, General Manager and Partner at Lexus On the Park, who made an announcement at the Silver Ball that Lexus On the Park will renew their vehicle donation for a fifth straight year in 2018. Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters for so generously supporting this year’s Silver Ball, Presented by Scotiabank, and helping us raise $1 million (net). Your support helps Providence Healthcare continue to deliver on the promise of providing hope, help and healing to thousands in our community.
